The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) recommends Two tablespoons of ground coffee for each 175ml (6oz.) of Water.
Put another way, that is 55 - 65 grams of ground coffee per litre of water for brewed coffee. It is also important to keep the coffee fresh and grind it just prior to brewing.
Espresso requires a little more finesse. A good starting point is 7 grams per “shot” or 14 grams per “double-shot”. However, these standard volumes have been revisited in recent years, and the standard used in many coffee shops these days are 18-21 grams and strictly double shots being brewed. We lean towards the 21 gram double shot brew basket in our La Marzocco GS3.
